ORRC’s Dual Duel Turns 50

Dual Duel
In the Dual Duel runners within a team run a single lap, then pass the baton to the next runner, until 40 laps total are completed. In a 2-person team, each runner rests while their partner completes a lap, then runs the next lap as their partner rests.

It has been four long years since we held the ORRC Dual Duel on a track in a traditional venue. On Sunday, October 15th at 10:00 AM, we plan to do exactly that. For its Golden Anniversary Edition we will also bring back our favorite venue, Catlin Gabel School, and our longtime Race Director, Daniel Brewer.

  • At 9:00 AM we will begin a new event, the ORRC Track Stride.
    • This will be a 5k walk on the track.
    • We will pose a 50-55 minute time limit, calling for the last lap at 50 minutes.
    • Traditionally, the Dual Duel has not been particularly conducive to a walk, however this year we will block off the inside four lanes so that our walkers can have full access to the track during this event.
    • Runners for the Dual Duel will be required to warm up on the outer lanes.
  • At 10:00 AM we will host the 50th edition of Oregon’s longest running race, the ORRC Dual Duel.
    • This is a 10-mile (40-lap) event with each runner running alternate quarter-mile legs. (20-each total for 5-miles each).
    • Runners will run in combined age groups in one of three running events (Men, Women, and Mixed).
    • As a bonus we are adding a special event, The Quad Relay, which will allow a team of 4 runners to compete (it is still 40 laps with each runner running 10-laps in rotating fashion for 2.5 miles each).
      • This event will have Open categories only.
        • Men’s (any gender makeup)
        • Women’s (all four runners are female)
        • Mixed (at least two female runners).
    • There will also be three Open Dual Race Walker Categories. (Mens, Women, and Mixed) which will be judged.
    • No Partner, No Problem. We will also hold a Solo Track 10k (25-laps).
    • Awards will be in Traditional ORRC 5-year age groups (we will clear lane one in the exchange zone to allow solo runners to avoid the chaos of the exchange zone, particularly in the early going.)
  • At 9:55 AM we will have a FREE open 400-meter kids run.

Yes, there will be a lot going on on October 15th, but I hope that in the light of a tough last few years, you will want to join us as ORRC celebrates 50-plus years of running.
