…ORRC wants you! If you like to have discussions about how to put on walking and running events, or if you just like talking about what’s happening with other fun and welcoming people, ORRC is accepting nominations (including self-nominations) to serve on the Board of Directors starting in January 2025. The Board meets once a month via Zoom on 2nd Tuesdays. We need opinions and feedback concerning races and policies of the club.
You can now register for the 2024 ORRC Turkey Trot! We’d like everyone to know we are planning for many improvements. The number of participants will be limited. We will have a fixed start time and have shortened the course slightly from 4 miles to 5 km (about 3.1 miles). The chocolate turkeys will be back and — new! — this year we’ll give out cute beanie hats to all participants. Read more.
A longtime annual ORRC tradition was our summertime member picnic on July 4, and we are happy to be bringing this back to our membership again as a free event in 2024. As a special bonus this year, if you attend the member picnic on July 4th, we will be having a raffle for two free entries into the Portland Marathon, along with other prizes. Learn more.

The February meeting will be a special one. Led by Daniel Brewer, the new board will all be invited to participate in a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis to discover more about the club’s qualities and how we’d like to improve and shape its direction.
…Ralph’s Run (formerly Y2K) is on Saturday, January 6th, 2024. Do you want a PR (personal record)? Now is your chance! Do the 20.24 in 2024 for a guaranteed personal best. There will also be a 5K and a 10K and EVERYONE gets to run up that tricky hill at the end! There are pancakes for everyone after the event, and a family discount for people registering 3 or more in one household. There is even a free kids’ run so everyone can participate. It has been four long years since we held the ORRC Dual Duel on a track in a traditional venue. On Sunday, October 15th at 10:00 AM, we plan to do exactly that. For its Golden Anniversary Edition we will also bring back our favorite venue, Catlin Gabel School, and our longtime Race Director, Daniel Brewer.
Yes, there will be a lot going on on October 15th, but I hope that in the light of a tough last few years, you will want to join us as ORRC celebrates 50-plus years of running.
