Announcement from ORRC President Stephen Wright
We are excited to announce that Oregon Road Runners Club will be launching a new website this weekend.
During our 2014 Strategic Planning Sessions, the need to update our current site was listed as one of the top priorities for our club. In the last year and with the approval of the Board of Directors, five volunteers from the club with experience in web design, communications, community outreach and IT developed requirements for a new website needed to meet the club mission to promote walking and running, to better engage and support our volunteers and to better server our members.
Once the requirements were developed, the club partnered with SeedPDX, a Portland-based website developer, to help build a new site. SeedPDX worked closely with our volunteers on the Web Transition Team, which consisted of Alan Smith (Team Lead), Michael Allen, Emmie Hiersche, Melissa Brown, and Allan Dushan who have given the club their talents and a tremendous amount of their time to this project.
Redesigning websites today is more than just changing the look and feel. It is taken advantage of the latest technology to do more with less. As a volunteer organization, we needed a system that was simple for posting content so that any member of the board or any race director could do it with minimal training.
We will now be able to quickly post headlines, content and alerts to keep you informed in a timely manner. The new site is also mobile and tablet friendly allowing members and the community to access the site on any device creating a seamless experience for everyone.
Another advantage of the new website is that it was developed using a system that is continually evolving. This allows the club to take advantage of new technologies as they emerge.
The new website will make it easier for our members to keep updated on the latest club activities and stay connected as a community. Further, it allows our club to better achieve our mission of promoting running and walking.
We encourage club members to explore the new site when it goes live at orrc.net. You may have to refresh your browser in order to see the new website.
